UHC & PacifiCare
It appears that United HealthCare (UHC) is intent on entering the Individual & Family health insurance market in California under its own name. Stay tuned for updates.
PacAdvantage Closing Shop
California's pooled PacAdvantage program for small employer groups is to be no more effective 12/31/2006. All existing groups will need to find alternative coverage effective January 1, 2007.
The reason? Blue Shield of California pulled out of the plan for economic reasons and Health Net followed suit. The remaining small HMO plans could not continue in PacAdvantage without the larger carriers and so the whole program collapsed.
State Mini-COBRA Programs
Many states offer mini-COBRA programs for groups under 20 employees. I have added a list on my site of current mini-COBRA states. You can access the page here.
